John McCabe plays Scarlatti and Clementi

Domenico Scarlatti, Muzio Clementi Keyboard Sonatas. John McCabe, piano. Divine Art DDA 21231Coming soon, a double album of heritage recordings by John McCabe, of keyboard sonatas by Scarlatti and Clementi, including the latter's best-known Didone Abbandonata sonata, Op. 50/3 in G minor. McCabe was noted for using his pianistic abilities to support the work of other composers, whether neglected masters from the past or contemporary composers who had not yet found a secure following for their music. Those whose idea of Clementi's piano sonatas has previously been that of fodder for learners will be amazed by these powerful and exciting works. Clementi thus joins Haydn, Nielsen and Bax along with the many composers whose piano music McCabe has brought back to life. His take on the more frequently performed Scarlatti sonatas is virile and musical. Freshly re-mastered for Divine Art, these recordings were originally made for Hyperion in 1981, and were made available for reissue by their kind permission.

Released in October 2019 on Divine Art  DDA 21231
